PakMarkas offers meat exporters new solutions to increase competition

The major packaging and labeling solutions company in Lithuania PakMarkas has offered Lithuania's meat processing industry a unique sausage casing which not only extends the expiry date of products but also enables the producers to reduce the amount preservatives used. It is of particular importance to those companies that have already received export permits from Russia's veterinary and sanitary inspection service to export their products to Russia.

“The product exported has to be protected with particular care from any mechanical or environment impact as it takes longer to reach the consumer. Today we can offer the representatives of Lithuania’s food industry a five-layer polyamide and cellulose casing “Case Tech” with particularly good barrier properties against oxygen and water vapour”, says the Marketing Director of PakMarkas Ronaldas Vaitiekűnas.

The key feature of the new casings is that they allow excluding certain preservatives that extend the expiry date of the product and retain its nutritive qualities.

The representative of PakMarkas explains the differences of packaging materials: “The consumers in Lithuania, Russia and other export markets of our producers have been choosing the products according to the quantity of natural features, preservatives used or other extraneous materials. With poor packaging materials food products are less protected from environmental impact, therefore, in order to preserve them more chemical substances are required or we have to face the fact that the products have a shorter expiry date".

Depending on the demand the producers are offered the casings with higher or lower barrier. Boiled sausage in such a casing can be stored up till 90 days (as the evidence for this we have the certificates issued by Russia's institute of meat product research). Moreover, the casings are characterized by excellent mechanical properties that protect the casing from any splits during the process of packaging.

High quality multilayer packaging materials with additional barrier layers are perfect not only for meat but also fish, bread, and dairy products. The expiry date of the product packed in the casing can be extended from 1-2 to 3-7 weeks. The expiry date can be extended due to additional barrier layers that prevent oxygen and water vapour from penetrating to the product in this way impeding the propagation of bacteria inside the package.

PakMarkas reached a 23.6 M litas turnover in the first half of the year. This year the turnover was 25% larger than the same period last year, when it made up 18.8 M litas. PakMarkas plans to increase its turnover by approximately 17% - from 41.9 M litas last year to 49 M litas this year.
