When the equipment is used to perform some functions, there is often the need to change RPMs of their electromotors. In order to change RPM of DC motors, it is sufficient to change the voltage supplied accordingly. Unfortunately, the most of motors used in industry is 3-phase ones supplied with AC voltage. For long time RPMs in such drives were changed by mechanical means; this was the belt-type variators at the beginning and the more advanced friction-type variators later. Nevertheless, today such mechanical variators are not always practical in use, especially because of the need to change RPM automatically, depending on the load etc. There are more and more frequency converters in use, enabling both to change RPMs of the motors and to program their operation; depending on signals from sensors, to implement “soft start”(without knock) and “soft stop”. The frequency converters from “SIEMENS“ are the high-quality ones.

According to the customer’s needs, they are divided into the following series:

Micromaster 420 series frequency converters are universal ones. They have power of 0.12-11 kW; they are supplied from single-phase and 3-phase mains. These frequency converters have more features, and area of their use is wider.

Micromaster 430 series frequency converters are named as “specialists” in pumps and ventilators also. They are sophisticated intellectual devices, enabling programming for different operation modes. They have also many different inputs and outputs for control signals. Their power range is 7.5 to 90 kW; they are supplied from 3-phase mains only. In order to limit production costs of these devices, their application area was limited to pump and ventilator control only.

Micromaster 440 series frequency converters are used for all other remaining applications. They are especially flexible. They can work in single-phase and 3-phase networks; they have the widest power range: 0.12-250 kW. They are the most advanced devices enabling the users to find solutions for the most complicated tasks. 440 and 430 series frequency converters perform function of the PID-regulator.
