Intaglio

The Intaglio printing or engraving is one of the most ancient printing methods known to the mankind. The principle of the intaglio printing is very simple: recesses engraved on the surface of the printing cylinder are filled with ink, the surplus of which is removed by the special ink-removal knife, and further ink is transferred directly to the printing material. In this case the ink dosing is performed by the printing cylinder itself, and due to this feature, this printing method has special advantages, because, depending on engraving depth, it is possible to print both the very small dots and the thick coating of continuous masking colour, what in other printing methods often is an issue of compromise (there are obtained small clear raster dots and not so clear continuous colours, or vice versa).
