Foil-Plating (Gold-Plating) by Means of Hot Stamping

The foil plating is used for stamping of the metal-coated and coloured foils onto the printed image or directly onto the printing material. There is used the special hot-stamping foil, which is composed of the film-substrate, the pigment/metal paint layer and the glue layer. When passing the processing section of the special machine, the foil is pressed to the printing material by means of the hot relief form. The relief elements of the form, due to the contact with the foil, melt the adhesive, which adheres to the printing material. Cool areas of the foil remain on the film-substrate.

The foil plating is used in cases, where an impression of the genuine metal-coated surface shall be created. Although expensive, this processing method has become the ‘standard de facto’ for packings and labels of strong drinks, cosmetic and hygienic products, because it relates to colours of gold and silver – the precious metals symbolising luxury and exclusiveness.
